Tokyo

When Perfumer Nicolas Bonneville created Tokyo for Gallivant, he wasn't trying to evoke the fashionable and bright Ginza or the concrete and glass of this metropolitan city. He wanted to capture the city at dawn, when things are still tranquil and quiet in the humid, misty morning air. There is certainly a damp earth aspect to Tokyo coming from the wonderful Hinoki (Japanese Cypress) found in the center of the scent. But before you get to that phase, you enter into this scent with a thin transparent veil of citruses, bergamot and yuzu, that act as a watercolor over the sharp aroma of freshly ground black pepper and wasabi. Another inspiration was the kodo ceramony, one of the Japanese classic arts of honoring incense. At the heart of Tokyo is a slightly balsamic sweetness from floral woody incense smoke. Finally, the woody accord of cedar, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli is a tribute to the wooden temples of Tokyo. This would lend itself to leaning more male if it wasn't for the soft fluffy petals of rose and iris that keep it from becoming overtly masculine. Find your inner zen amongst the neon energy of the big city with Tokyo by Gallivant.
